My first ever cake!

For my sons first birthday i decided i was going all out and wanted a massive 3 tier jungle cake. I asked around my local selling sites for cake makers and got quoted a bunch of prices ranging from £80-£100 and quickly realized i was not going to be able to afford it.

Now for reasons completely lost to me, having never baked a cake in my life, i decided to make it myself. i bought some packs of packet mix, a cake tin and a bunch of packet icings and thought i was good to go!

When i think back now the baking did not go very well, but at the time i thought they came out okay. with 18 hours to go till the little man would be up it was time to start decorating. fair to say the next six hours were filled with crying, shouting and pure panic! first i hadnt thought about a rolling pin so had to improvise with the inside of a cling film roll and cling film to roll the icing out on.

what an absolute disaster but i still feel super proud of this one as its the one that started it all!
